Transmog is optional. Visit a transmogrifier in certain cities to configure outfits or disable the system entirely; disabled means you see other players in their equipped gear.

Choosing the Classic Experience Preset disables transmog automatically. Even with it disabled, you keep collecting appearances from new gear in case you enable it later.

Item-type rules still apply (plate→plate, cloth→cloth). Low-level characters cannot use high-level appearances until level 60, when level restrictions are removed for valid appearances. Cosmetic-only items are the exception but rare.

Poor/Common quality items grant their appearance on loot without binding. You can hide helm/cloak per character even if transmog is disabled for others.
